Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that the University is facing some important goals in the context of its transformation into a research technical university.
The President stressed that as the country’s industrialization programme is underway there is an increase in demand for highly qualified engineering personnel.
“More than 700 facilities, built over the years of industrialization, and nearly 70 enterprises that are to be launched this year are in need of well-trained engineers. To this end, we have been paying serious attention to the transformation and development of the country’s higher education institutions. In addition, the increase in funding and transfer of supervision over research institutes to universities is aimed at creating conditions for students to engage in science. Unfortunately, the majority of graduates are not willing to engage in science, including those who receive academic degrees,” he said.
Zheksenbek Adilov told Nursultan Nazarbayev about the progress made in the creation of an innovative cluster for efficient use of resources in Almaty. He also informed the President of innovative projects in engineering and technology, geology, mining and smelting.
Following the meeting, the Head of State gave a number of specific instructions related to the development of engineering education.
